Dr. Yuzu and Mrs. Hyla

Amphibians are one of the joys of the Monte. So far, we already had the chance to discover Triturus pygmaeus, Bufo calamita and Pelodytes punctatus. Here is another species that we saw for the first time this last june, at the Horta, on a Yuzu tree (above) as well as on another citrus tree, taking advantage of the plastic tubes we surround the trunks with: the tree frog Hyla arborea, a pure little marvel. There are three species in the Iberic peninsula: H. arborea, H. meridionale and H. Molleri. And here is the distribution of H. arborea in Portugal.
